week 3 Portal Frame, End Wall Section Detail

Roofing: It is important to use an angle for the roof that is within the limitations of the roofing material.
Fly Bracing: Fly bracing should be avoided if possible. While it provides a reaction force against uplift forces it is not always necessary and just adds more cost and embodied energy to the building.
Girts: Girts can either be ‘c’ or ‘z’ section, they should be orientated to limit the amount of rubbish that is able to be caught by them, which could result in damage to the girt. An element of the wall structure.
Zinc Alume capping: This cap prevents water entering and coming in contact with the structure elements that would be affected by exposure to water.
Safety mesh: Placed over purling for the safety of workers working on the roof.
Sarking: Insulation
Purlin: The section is the same as a girt the difference is purlins are part of the roof structure while girts are found in the wall structure.
Rafter: Universal beam, an ‘I’ section, supports the roof structure.
Mullion: Universal column, an ‘I’ section, in portal frame construction.
HD bolts: Hold down bolts, make sure they are checked and comply with standards.
